In all these languages there are noun classes; there also appears to be concord of a sort, e.g., with possessives. The vocabulary shows a considerable resemblance to Bantu. Tessmann classifies Bamileke “dialects” into those having many prefixes, few prefixes, and no prefixes, but Stoll says that all the dialects have prefixes, though some may be reduced to a nasal or to a vowel which is stressed only slightly. He also states that the speech of all the Bamileke dialects is extremely rapid, avoiding any polysyllabism and going straight to the radical with the least possible emphasis on prefix or suffix.8
